POEM 41 PARTNER PRATTLING

To be loved is the perpetual thirst

To deny it will leave you forever cursed

In the beginning, love is fragile

As it grows, it gains strength ample

To successfully love another

First, love yourself or be failure

Love came quietly, casting its spell

It had me in its grasp before I could tell

Love must be given freedom to grow

Unrestricted, it creates its own flow

Emotions are rampant, out of control

Bonding and serenity are the eventual goal

The world spins by, we don’t care

We just want to be a pair

Hand in hand, we stand facing the wind

With communication, we become disciplined

Trust is essential, built over time

Carefully constructed, can last a lifetime

Openness and truth are the foundation

Without them, we haven’t begun

Make no assumptions, be not a fool

Continuous communication is a basic rule

Take every opportunity to learn your partner

Things never stay the way they were

The touch of your partner is not to miss

Above other things, creates bonding and bliss

Time with your partner is never wasted

It solidifies and makes it grounded

An uplifting word will always be heard

Done daily, it’s never awkward

A compliment is never out of place

Anytime is good, inject it any place

An occasional gift helps it grow

Life is better in the afterglow

The work is not hard but rewarding

The results can make your heart sing

POEM 39 PURPOSEFUL STROLL

A purposeful stroll around the lake

Alone time, a time to meditate

The cares of life are washed away

With a clear mind, ready for play

With freedom, the choices are many

No excuse to live life blandly

All this comes when it’s time to take

A friend approaches with terrible news

Much worse than feeling the blues

I offer my shoulder while my friend cries

I listen quietly, try my best to empathize

I can’t feel the pain in their heart

I offer to help, try to do my part

Together we get through the day

It becomes less, but the pain never goes away

POEM 37 CHANCE

She stood there waiting to dance

This really isn’t about romance

I thought; why not give it a chance

My dance skills are somewhat lacking

She was kind and didn’t send me packing

As we danced in grand style around the floor

I was happy, hungry for more

Dancing is a gateway to happiness

It brings out the best in all of us

A cool morning devoured by the ascending sun

The first task will soon be done

As we cross items off, we feel we’ve won

Many opportunities for the day

Getting much accomplished feels like play

Few setbacks, tomorrow is another day

Each day, I set aside time for fun

Love and acceptance are the natural state

Justice for all is the natural state

A better world will be our fate

It takes work to learn to hate

It takes work to close a mind

It’s easier to just be kind

Hand in hand we advance mankind

It all makes so much sense

A serene world will be the consequence

I’m not a lifelong poet

I write to spill my brain

Surprised by the thoughts I contain

It matters not what they mean to me

It only matters what they mean to thee

POEM 33 OPEN MIND

Don’t be afraid to speak your mind

You can do it without being unkind

To live life fully, open your mind

Receive ideas, they needn’t be aligned

Trust is precious, give it and receive

Share yourself and you will achieve

Welcome the adventure, assume the uncertainty

Life has its problems, never carefree

To experience it will bring peace and tranquility

The road may be long, but not lonesome

I feel sorry for those living in a slum

I have myself as good company

Driving is meditative, I stare blankly

I am in control of my universe

I’m singing my happy song, on third verse

Outside the air is hot and dry

The most interesting clouds fill the sky

My back is sore, the day is done

I cried the day we first met

I cried again the day you left

In another life, we’ll meet again one day

Maybe, this time, you won’t go away

I reveled in the time we had

We went our separate ways, I feel sad

Life in its wisdom is not always fair

To live our life without regret

We need to forgive and forget

It was a long lonely drive

At the end, I would feel alive

Time expired, it was time to go

The open road was my new foe

Deer grazing in a mountain meadow

Sustainable peace on a spring day mellow

Bears eating wild berries with flavor rife

Rabbits raiding my garden, many crimes

Spring is the bride of the new year

It is the harbinger of all that is clear

Colorful are the clothes we wear

Start each new day without a care

The sweetness of life is a vindication

Doing the right thing is the anthem

The work of justice is never done

One day, a peaceful world we will become

Hard work and fortitude required here

Attention required, the end is near

We have the power, nothing to fear

We are common residents of this wondrous planet

The opportunities are an astonishing banquet

Respect and acceptance are required

The utopia we desire will be acquired

When feeling blue, I drive to the beach

While a fair drive, it’s within reach

The wind and miles of sand

Wash away the cares of the day as planned

The quiet little tourist town

Yuppies acting like a clown

Can’t leave town without caramel fudge

Need to walk, so waistline doesn’t budge

Starting peaceful drive home, troubles emptied

Back to regular life, no longer frenzied

Dance with me, the night is young

No rhyme or reason, the fun has begun

The music inhabits our soul

Moving around the floor, a tranquil stroll

The fantasy of life goes by in a blur

Reality disappears, ecstasy grows deeper

The world of dance is an amazing place

It’s been a while since I’ve posted the five word challenge poetry. I’ve tried to incorporate some of the things I learned reading about poetry. It’s a little clunky and forced. Not my best work. I believe this exercise opens new pathways in the brain, expanding my horizons. I hope it does the same for you.

28 simplicity tinge nape ice kleptomaniac

A tinge of orange streaked the sky

Announcing the beginning of an eventful day

The nape of my neck dripping with sweat

Challenges looming, nary a threat

It won’t finish itself, enter the fray

Simplicity of approach, set goals high

Don’t let the kleptomaniac of time steal your day

Use it wisely, you have class

The clank of ice in the glass

Once again you have escaped the morass
